G.A.T.E. - Gambian Aid Through Education
Gateway to a better future.
Gate is a charitable outreach to some of the poorest people in Africa, Janet Clark is the founder of this outreach. The Gambia, in West Africa, is a popular winter tourist resort. Janet started her charitable work there after spending a winter holiday there in 2000.
Janet has now been joined by Marney, and together they have been travelling to the remote Upper River Division, staying in the village of Bakadage, where there is no electricity or running water.
our main aim is to assist more children to go to school in a country where education is not free or compulsory, and where necessary support the local community in order to encourage parents to send their children to school.
We are able to ship good quality donated clothing (both new and used), children's reading books (English is the official language), and school equipment.
We arrange individual sponsorships for students and children of all ages from just 60p per week. You could make a real difference and change a child's life!
Peoples generous support has enabled us to build wells, playgrounds, milling machines (and buildings to house them)and a school kitchen , we have also fenced kitchen gardens so vegetables can be grown.
Donations of vegetable seeds are always welcome - peppers, carrots, onions, cabbage, tomatoes, lewttuce, aubergine and pumpkin are the most useful.
Janet and Marney travel to The Gambia at least once every year to personally visit our sponsored children and oversee how monies are spent, and to teach these people that God loves them.
Janet travels throughout East Anglia to talk to groups who invite her.
